Introduction of EOA’s Barracks Lawyer

Post on May 13, 2015 by

"EOA is about working towards the High Performing Executive Office. The 3 core belief statements of EOA include win-win approaches, developing powerful partnerships and effective organisation of time. It is about leadership that manifests itself both within and from the Executive Office. In order to provide for input from those affected by leadership good and bad we have invited ‘A Barracks Lawyer’ to provide regular inputs for your consideration. He has been given carte blanche to 'tell it like it is’ from his perspective, which he describes as "A View from the Other Ranks". That includes being able to reflect both his thoughts and emotions in his own style complete with humour, advice and provocation. It is all in the name of being balanced, seeing things from different perspectives and getting the thought department working."

Our contributor is NOT a manager, but fancies himself as a leader of sorts. In the British army, officers used the term "Barracks Lawyer" to refer (despairingly) to other ranks who were articulate, and could therefore challenge their decisions. Our contributor has consistently been doing this (i.e. challenging) during his 27 years in employment (which nobody could possibly call a career!).

In his first entry, he gives us his thoughts about "Bonus Schemes" and argues that they are a terrible idea and should be banished from the face of the earth.

See his next Blog Post for that ...
