We did a straw-pole of about 40 Executives amongst 400 attending a Business School event in 2014. The overwhelming response was that the importance of the Executive Personal Assistants in their company had rather gone down than up and this mainly due to technology allowing Senior Executives to have direct access to all they need and whenever they need it.
